Workshop on groundwater irrigation in city today

Final Dissemination Workshop on the Australian Government-funded research project titled ‘Sustaining Groundwater Irrigation for Food Security in the Northwest Region of Bangladesh’ will be held in the capital today.
Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) in association with Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia, will arrange the workshop at BRAC Centre INN, Mohakhali, Dhaka.
Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque will speak at the workshop as the chief guest while Water Resources Senior Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar as guest of honour and Agriculture Secretary Md Sayedul Islam as special guest, reports BSS.
The workshop will be chaired by IWM Executive Director Abu Saleh Khan.
CSIRO partnered with IWM, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), BAU, Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) and Water Resources Planning Organization (WARPO) for this research.
The research was focused on the northwest region of Bangladesh which covers two administrative divisions of the country: Rajshahi Division (8 districts – Chapai Nawabganj, Naogaon, Rajshahi, Natore, Bogura, Joypurhat, Pabna and Sirajganj) and Rangpur Division (8 districts – Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and Kurigram).
