Workshop on eco-village design at SEU

A workshop titled “21st Century Eco-Village Design”, conducted by international expert on sustainable architecture Ar Iliona Outram Khalili, was held at the Seminar Hall of Southeast University (SEU) Permanent Campus recently.
Pro Vice Chancellor of SEU Prof Dr Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury was present at the inaugural session of the workshop as Chief Guest, while Chairman of the Department of Architecture Prof Meer Mobashsher Ali delivered welcome address. Dean (Acting), School of Science & Engineering, Prof Syed Fakhrul Hassan delivered vote of thanks. Director of Housing and Building Research Institute Mohammad Abu Sadeque, Education Secretary of Institute of Architects-Bangladesh Ar Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad, Director of New Earth UK Aktanin Khair Tanin and Assistant Prof & Coordinator of Department of Architecture Ar Mohammad Sazzad Hossain were present as discussants. Among others, Chief Coordinator of BOT, SEU Trust Wing Cdr. Syed Ahmed Kabir, fawc, psc (Retd), Faculty Members of SEU and experts from other educational institutions were present at the session.
Giving importance on addressing the challenges of Climate Change, speakers at the session discussed about time befitting housing development technique by using local resources and materials that help minimize the crisis of possible climate refugees. In this case they underscored the necessity of Eco-Village Design in this region. Iliona discussed the detail of the topic through a PowerPoint presentation.
Ar Iliona Outram Khalili has been a pioneer of sustainable architecture for more than two decades and is an impassioned advocate of sustainable development. At Cal-Earth (California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture), Khalili was the Project Manager for Research and Development of “Super adobe” sandbag and barbed wire construction prototypes. Her “Sandbag Shelter Prototypes” won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
