Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member of UGC, presided over the inaugural ceremony. Ms. Ligaya Dumaoang, TVET and Skills Development Specialist, Skills 21 Project, delivered the welcome remarks.
Addressing the workshop, the UGC Chairman said National Qualifications Framework (NQF) is expected to help to develop one’s knowledge and skills. Referring to a survey report published by BIDS, Professor Mannan said that 39 percent of our university graduates are jobless. “It is very alarming for us. The report showed we are not giving the right type of knowledge and skills that the country needs. There is a big gap between university-industry collaboration’. He also said universities should update their curriculum on a regular basis.
Laying emphasis on becoming entrepreneurs, the UGC Chairman said we need to ensure proper education that helps to get jobs but also create entrepreneurs who would provide jobs.
“A country doesn’t only need job seekers but also need entrepreneurs. We have a lot of potential youth force who needs to be equipped with cutting edge knowledge and technology.’
