The final workshop of a series of training programs for youth journalists tilted ‘Covering COVID-19: Media Training for Youth Journalists in Bangladesh’ will begin today.
Acting British High Commissioner to Bangladesh H.E. Javed Patel will inaugurate the training program at 7:00pm with a virtual platform, said a press release.
More than hundreds youth journalists, working as university correspondent in different universities, are taking part in these three-day long workshops, on media literacy and covering Covid-19.
The first workshop was held from July 8-10 and the last one will be held from July 27-29 using Zoom platform with 52 campus correspondents from 15 universities, said the release.
DU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal and Secretary General of EAVI Paolo Celot and IFES Regional Director for Asia-Pacific Vasu Mohan will address the programme as special guests while Dean of Social Sciences faculty also former Information Commissioner Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim will preside over.
Faculty of Social Sciences of Dhaka University (DU) and Micro-governance Research Initiative of DU arranged the programme in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Washington DC with the support of Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and UKAID.
The training will cover issues of misinformation, hate speech, fact-checking and inclusive journalism on how to cover vulnerable communities, including women and person with disabilities, said Aynul Islam, Moderator of the workshops also Associate Professor of DU Political Science Department.
Internationally renowned resource persons and media experts will attend as trainer in different sessions.
The speakers include Secretary General of EAVI Paolo Celot, Asia-Pacific Regional Director of IFES Vasu Mohan, IFES Deputy Country Director for Sri Lanka Lasanthi Daskon, Dr. Shameem Reza from the DU Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Current Affairs Editor of Ekattor Media Ltd. Mithila Farzana and health journalist and special correspondent of Prothom Alo Shishir Morol.
