The inception workshop on “Improved Weather and Flood Information System for Community Based Risk and Resource Management” project was held on Tuesday at Six Seasons Hotel, Dhaka.
It was facilitated by Regional Integrated Multi-hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) under a partnership with CARE Bangladesh’s ShouhardoIII program, funded by USAID with complementary funding from the Government of Bangladesh.
Through the partnership, the project will pilot community-oriented weather and flood information services by providing forecast-based advisories for agriculture, livestock and disaster management sectors and it will advance the idea from “what the weather will be” to “what the farmers should do.”
The chief guest, Mahmudul Islam, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, expressed his optimism and enthusiasm that the project will help in reducing livelihoods losses, as well as improve lives and food security of flood-prone communities.
Special guests included Md. Mohsin, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief,. Chandi Das Kundu, Director, Field Services Wing, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Prabodh Devkota, Assistant Country Director, CARE Bangladesh, and Walter Mwasaa Chief of Party of Shouhardo III.
The inception workshop was chaired by Dr. Govindarajalu Srinivasan, Chief Scientist- Climate Applications, RIMES. From RIMES, DrAnshul Agarwal, Team Leader-Hydrology, Raihanul Haque Khan, Country Program Lead-Bangladesh were also present.
