Workshop on climate change held at DU

An international workshop on “Climate Change and Desalination Using Membrane Technology” was held on Wednesday at the Center for Advanced Research for Sciences (CARS) of Dhaka University.
DU Applied Chemistry and Engineering Department under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of UGC (University Grants Commission) organized the workshop.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest with DU Engineering and Technology Faculty Dean Prof Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
HEQEP Project Director and Additional Secretary Dr Gouranga Chandra Mohanta, Dr Alberto Figoli of University of Calabria, Italy and Prof Dr Ing
Jan Hoinkis of Karlsruhe University, Germany, among others, addressed the inaugural session.
Dr Alberto of University of Calabria delivered his speech on the prospect of Membrane Technology while Prof Dr Ing Jan of Karlsruhe University spoke on the prospects of Membrane Technology in Bangladesh.
DU VC said, “We are witnessing the impact of climate change almost every day. It threatens our well being, our biological existence, our socio-economic security and our poverty reduction efforts.”
Prof Arefin thanked the organizers and participants for arranging the workshop.
A total of 70 local and overseas experts participated in the workshop.
