Workshop in Nilphamari suggests normal delivery

A health project in rural areas of the district organizes normal delivery to pregnant women in union health and family welfare centers and conducts 3,402 such deliveries in 2017 providing them auto motorize vans for their transportation at time of need and also impart training to concerned root level govt. health employees to increase skill in this field.
The project also work for reduction of maternal and child mortality rate in targeted areas and also making effort to empower women through increasing knowledge and capabilities for maternal neonatal and sexual reproductive health rights decisions by establishing 8,505 self help groups.
The information were revealed on Wednesday in a daylong workshop arranged on gender transformative approach on occasion of recently concluded International Women Day at the training center of the leprosy mission international in Nilphamari.
Organisers informed that the workshop was arranged under a project entitled ‘strengthening health outcomes for women and children (show)’ funded by Global Affairs, Canada and organized by NGO Plan International Bangladesh with support of implementing organization Lutherian Aid to Medicine (LAMB) in Bangladesh.
The event attended by Khandokar Nahid Hasan, additional district magistrate of Nilphamari as chief guest while Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr. Ranjit Kumar Barman and deputy director (DD) family planning Afroja Begum were present as special guests.
At the beginning, project manager Dr.Asit Kumar Das gave a presentation on Show project and discussed about its objective, working area, activities and achievements.
Gender Specialis Irfath Ara Iva of the project discussed about gender transformative approach, why and how women are being deprived to receive health services in family and society.
Since 2016, Show project is working in district’s all 60 unions and 4 municipalities and offering gender responsive and adolescent friendly services free of cost as each community health worker working against 800 households to identify pregnant women and motivate them to receive antenatal care and go for institutional delivery.
In an open discussion, UNOs, head of upazila health complexes, upazila family planning officers and upazilla women affairs officers suggested for project’s further improvemen.
A good number of local electronic and print media journalists were also present in the event.
