Workshop held on Wildlife in Moulvibazar

Bangladesh’s endangered species of wildlife are on the verge of extinction due to illegal trade at the local and international level, speakers say during a workshop on wildlife.
The daylong workshop on combating illegal wildlife trade was jointly organized by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Forest Department of Bangladesh.
The workshop was organized to improve the quality of reporting on wildlife trade and related crimes by enhancing the ability of media personnel. Forty-five journalists from all four districts in Sylhet division participated in the workshop.
Addressing as chief guest, Moulvibazar’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Ali Ahsan said, “The major challenge in curbing the illegal trade in wildlife is to arrest the culprits and prosecute them. In such cases, correct identification of the animal, the crime and all other related information should be accurate. Our wildlife is our resource and if we don’t act now, those will be lost forever.”
MA Salam, President of Moulvibazar Press Club, ASM Zahir Uddin Akon, director of Wildlife Crime Control Unit of Forest Department, Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Divisional Forest Officer (wildlife) of Forest Department, Lashkar Makshudur Rahman, legal adviser, Md Tariqul Islam, senior advisor and Samiul Mohsenin, co-ordinator of Wildlife Crime Suppression Program of WCS Bangladesh was present among others. After the ending workshop they distributed certificates among the perticipants.
