Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said, here on Sunday that illegal and unauthorized structures from Kanchpur landing station under Kanchpur Bridge in Siddhirganj police station would be removed very soon.
The minister made the observation while inaugurating the Kanchpur “Eco Park” by planting fruit bearing and Herbal plants in the morning. The inauguration ceremony was organized by BIWTA.
Upon the completion of the work banks of the Shitalakhya river would get a greenery look free from pollution and unauthorized occupation, he said.
BKMEA president and law maker of Narayanganj-5 A.K.M. Salim Osman, law maker of Narayanganj-4 A.K.M Shamim Osman, Chairman of BIWTA Commodore M. Mozammel Haq, Chief Engineer of BIWTA Mozibur Rahman and Joint Director (Port) A.K.M Arif Uddin, among others, were present on the occasion.
The minister said, the “Eco-Park” would be built on 15 acres of land at an estimated cost of Taka nine Crore 50 Lakh.
He said, about 8 kilometer long walkway has already been completed in the western side of the river Shitalakhya from B.I.W.T.A Ghat No-5 to Nitaiganj, Adding he said, another 22 kilometer long walkway from Demra to Madangaj under Bandar Upazila is under construction.
Later, the minister visited the BIWTA marine workshop, Central Terminal Ferry Ghat, proposed site of BIWTA Mukti Juddha Sangshad and assured the members of the public that ferry service across the river Shitalkhaya between Bandar ferry Ghat and Narayanganj terminal would be introduced within a very short time.
