Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister M Shahab Uddin on Saturday urged all to work together for protection of biodiversity of the country’s lone coral island Saint Martin side by side overall environment of the country .
“Present government has taken up various effective measures and all government organizations and citizens to put their integrated endevours for the protection of biodiversity’, the minister said .
He was speaking as chief guest on the occasion of The International Biodiversity Day, May 22 at a “Consultative Workshop on Saint Martin’s Island and Other Endangered Species Eco” virtually joining from his official residence, said a press release.
“The dream for building “Sonar Bangla” as envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should be implemented by preserving and restoring the country’s rich biodiversity, ecosystem and varied nature,” he said.
Deputy Minister Begum Habibun Nahar was present as the special guest at the workshop chaired by Ziaul Hasan NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Director General (Routine Responsibilities) of the Department of Environment Md. Moniruzzaman, Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury addressed the workshop.
Video messages from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, executive secretary of the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity, were also presented.
Representatives of government and non-government organizations also spoke and placed a set of recommendations for conservation of biodiversity.
