UNB, Chittagong :
Workers of a factory in Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) staged demonstration in front main gate of the EPZ yesterday morning demanding wage increment.
The workers of ‘Yang International’, a Korean factory, blocked the main gate of CEPZ around 8.30am as the authorities of the factory reportedly refused to pay their increment.
Police said the factory authorities had recently increased the wages of the workers which was supposed to come to effect from the current month.
The workers got agitated as they did not get the increment during the month’s payment on Sunday afternoon.
At one stage, industrial police rushed to the spot, and, a discussion was held between the factory authorities and the workers’ representatives later.
The authorities assured the police that they would pay the increment today (Monday).
But the workers found the gate of the factory locked in the morning which agitated them again.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
