Workers right needed to bolster economy

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan Friday underscored the need for preferring the workers right which is necessary to strengthen the economy of the country.
“Workers, apparel factory owners and the government also have contribution in development of the apparels sector of the country-so no atrocities but well practice of trade unionism can protect the interest of the workers”, said the minister.
The minister said this as the chief guest while he was speaking at public parliament debate programme at Bashundara city here.
The debate competition titled “the role of the government and the trade union for protecting the interest of the garment workers”, held between South East University and BGMEA University.
The minister, however, said that the government and the trade union are not rival-rather these are complementary to one another.
The workers as a whole are playing important role in overall development of the country, poverty alleviation, raising national growth and procuring foreign remittance, said the minister, “so, the present government has taken various initiatives which are helpful to protect the right of the workers”.
Debate for Democracy organized the function while its chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron chaired it.
