The workers’ children who will get GPA-5 in Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations will get Tk 25,000 each.
The government has taken a decision to grant the stipends to the children of all workers from both the formal and the informal sectors.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Md. Mujibul Haque disclosed it at a programme arranged in honour of cement giant Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd for donating a portion of their profits to the government- administered Workers’ Welfare Trust Fund.
A three-member delegation of Lafarge Surma led by CEO Niraj Akhouri deposited Tk 1,02, 61,750 in the fund.
The state minister said workers’ children who acquired GPA-5 in SSC and HSC examinations in the last two years (2015 and 2016 session)
have been asked to apply for stipends by August 30. After scrutiny of their applications, worthy candidates will be given a one-off payment of Tk 25,000 by September.
Besides, the students who will be admitted into Public University, Medical, Agriculture and Engineering College/University will be paid Tk three lakh each from the fund, said Mujibul Haque.
At present the total accumulated amount in the trust is around Tk 171 crore. Some 71 national and multinational companies have been depositing a part of their profits in the fund, the minister added.
