Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (BSPSF) called off their 24-hour transport strike across five districts in the division at 3 pm on Tuesday after a meeting with Police Administration.BSPSF President Mohammad Musa said they withdrawn the strike according to the assurance to accept their demands by Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and district police in a meeting held at CMP auditorium last noon.
DC traffic of CMP Masudul Hasan said the authority assured to accept their demands and we will organise a joint meeting in presence of City Mayor and CMP Commissioner on December 4 in this regard.Earlier, nine-hour transport strike in Chittagong and its adjacent
districts passed off peacefully causing huge suffering of common people.
The strike was being observed at Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban from 6 am and called off 3 pm. People of all walks of life suffered very much due to shortage of transports on the city streets during the strike.Workers of all public transports including bus, truck and minibus refrained from work and forcibly halted other vehicles, especially the CNG-run three-wheelers.
The regional committee of BSPSF announced the strike on Saturday to press home their nine-point demand including construction of bus and truck terminals and parking spots for auto-rickshaws and three-wheelers.Nur-e-Alam Mina, superintendent of Police in Chittagong district, others senior police officials and leaders of BSPSF were present in the meet among others.
