RMG workers blocked streets in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Savar on Sunday demanding payment of arrear salaries.
In Dhaka, angry RMG workers from different factories took to the streets at Malibagh on Sunday morning for the same reason.
Workers gathered near the Abul Hotel on DIT Road and demonstrated for over three hours from 8 am.
Abdur Rashid, Officer-in-Charge of Hatirjheel Police station told the media that members of law enforcers later calmed the workers down and persuaded them to call off the protests at 11:30 am.
Some angry victims on the spot told the media that they were crying for payment of two months salaries of February and March.
Earlier, the owners had selected April 15 for payment but did not maintain their commitment. Besides, the date of payment was rescheduled to April 26 but the authorities later called the women workers over the phone on Saturday, saying they would send Tk 2,000 through Bkash.
“This dilly-dallying forced us to come out onto the streets to protest, they added.
In Narayanganj, Hundreds of RMG workers started their demonstration in the morning in front of their workplaces for one hour until 12 noon.
Garment workers staged demonstrations and barricaded the road protesting layoff, said Aslam Hossain, Officer in Charge (OC) of Fatullah Police Station.
In Gazipur, workers of several garment factories took to the streets demanding their wages for March.
They also blocked different roads including the Dhaka-Mymensingh road in the Bhogra area.
“Some factory owners switched off their mobile phones,” said S Alam, Assistant Superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police.
Later, the workers returned to their homes after they were promised of their wages by some factory owners, the ASI added.
In Savar and Ashulia, around 1000 workers of four factories demonstrated in front of their workplaces on Sunday morning, demanding last month’s wages.
