Work to deliver safe food: Food Minister

It is necessary to ensure that consumers should get safe food not only during the holy month of Ramzan but throughout the year. The authorities concerned should take more effective initiatives to raise moral awareness to deliver safe food to the consumers.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said this while speaking virtually as the chief guest participating in an view exchange meeting on ‘Ensuring Safe Food during Ramzan’ from his secretariat office on Wednesday
“It is needed to make the safe food authority’s activities visible at the grassroots level. Success will not come if the consumer is not aware. That is why we need to raise awareness. We need to work closely with food traders, public representatives and the administration to make consumers aware as well as ensure adulterated food,” the Food Minister said.
He also instructed the officials to post their activities on social media so that consumers could be aware regarding safe food.
Safe Food Authority Chairman Abdul Qayum presided over the function where Secretary of the Ministry of Food Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum also spoke as the special guest.
 “Safe food officials are working within their limits. Motivational activities are needed alongside normal activities in the holy month of Ramzan,” she said. At this time, he emphasised on taking.
During the meeting, the chairman of the Safe Food Authority said that a total of 2,560 food traders have been trained on how to make and market safe iftar during the holy month of Ramzan across the country.
Apart from this, regular miking, distribution of leaflets and installation of posters are underway to increase public awareness, he further said.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of Safe Food Authority, Safe Food Officers of Metropolitan and District level.
