After two times explanations, Khulna-Mongla Railway Building Project has untied its knot.
Axim Bank of India has agreed to give financial aid in this regard. As a result dreams of the people of this region are coming to be true
.The work order was given to Irkon International on February 17 this year. The building work of the railway likely to start at the end of this week, said Md. Mujibur Rahman, the project director.
Meanwhile, Tk. 808 crore was released for the purpose. Out of this Tk. 646 crore was given to the deputy commissioner(DC) of Khulna and Tk. 242 crore to the deputy commissioner(DC) of Bagerhat.
The main work will be started from Phultala area at railway’s own land. Besides, matter of land acquiring of Mongla was solved in a meeting while the secretary of Railway Ministry Md. Firoj Salehuddin, Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md. Amzad Hossain , Mongla Port chairman Brig. Admiral RU Ahmed, Khulna DC Nazmul Ahsan and Bagerhat DC Jahangir Alam were present.
Sources said, Khulna-Mongla railway project was taken first in 2010. The work supposed to complete within 2013, but due to some complicacies, the duration was exceeded till 2018.
Primarily the project cost was fixed at Tk. 1721 crore 39 lakh. Later it was increased and stood at Tk. 2116 crore.
Railway sources said, Bangladesh Railway authorities has signed a dealing with India for building railway from Khulna’s Phultala via By pass, Zero point, Rupsha, Lokhpur, Katakhgali to Mongla.
Sources said, ECNEC approved the Khulna-Mongla railway project on December21, 2010. If the project is implemented as per commitment committed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , goods transport in the route of Khulna-Mongla would be easier. Besides, this railway would be able to give transit to India, Nepal and Bhutan.
Moreover, 5 crore people of south-western region will get comfortable journey, if the Khulna-Mongla railway begins, experts think..
