Work on dev of 7 roads costing Tk 999m in Sylhet Divn to start in January

Reconstruction works on seven important roads of Sylhet Division would begin in January 2016 under a special programme taken up by the Roads & Highways Department at a cost of Tk 999.6 million.
The project for reconstruction of 85 kilometre on different important roads in the division was approved at the ECNEC months ago, officials informed. Twenty-seven culverts and 6 bridges on the said roads would also be constructed under the programme.
Executive Engineer of the R & H, Sylhet Sheikh Md. Maniorul Islam told this correspondent, “Today we are preparing separate schemes and estimates for each of the roads. These would be approved by the authorities within months.”
The Additional Chief Engineer Iftekhar Kabir, R & H, Sylhet zone when contacted, told this correspondent, the project was approved at the ECNEC in June. Since the concerned officials were now preparing the schemes for the district connecting roads, hopefully the works would be started in January.
We would have to complete the Tk 999 million works in 2 years, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 fiscal, he added.
The schemes under the special programme includes, part Darbast-Kanaighat-Shahbag road, Rashidpur-Biswanath-Rampasha-Lamakazi road and the Sylhet-Daudabad-Daudpur-Bhadeswar-Mirganj road in Sylhet district at a total cost of Tk 281 million.
Reconstruction of Shaistaganj-Puranbazar-Kolimnagar Road and Baniachang-Nabiganj road and construction of 4 bridges on Habiganj-Baniachang road in Habiganj district would cost Tk 278 million.
Only the Kulaura-Shamshernagar-Srimangal road reconstruction and construction of a bridge alongsides 16 culverts on the same in Moulvibazar would cost Tk 221 million. Lowest Tk 215 million would be spent on Sunamganj-Kachirgati-Biswambharpur road and Gobindaganj-Chhatak-Doarabazar-Sunamganj road in Sunamganj district, the officials informed.
On implementation of the project, the regional road network would be improved much, since the roads connect the 4 district headquarters with their upazilas, the official noted further.
