“The construction work of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project(NPP) is progressing according to the schedule with utmost transparency and efficiency,” Deputy Chairman of Jatiya Sangsad Committee on Estimated Accounts Abdus Shahid said during an exchange of views with reporters at the Conference Room of Rooppur NPP (PD Bhawan) of the project’s Green City on Tuesday .
MP said this by pointing out that the work of the project is undoubtedly going on transparently, he further said that the conditions of the contract executed with the Russian contractor for the construction of nuclear power under all kinds of hazards are very transparent and strong.
We personally observed that the work is progressing rapidly as per schedule. Regarding the loan agreement with Russia and the return of money, he said that the project will be very positive with the conditions that are there. Bangabandhu’s daughter, our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has boldly decided to build nuclear power plants to provide cheap electricity to the people of the country.
It is doubtful whether any other Prime Minister would have been able to show this courage.
In response to journalists’ questions, the Minister of Science and Technology Architect Yeafesh Osman said that the Corona situation and the Russia-Ukraine war had no effect on the project, and said that there is no opportunity to increase the construction cost of the project. The construction of the project must be done within the contract.
Earlier, a five-member monitoring team of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee personally observed the progress of the project till noon on Monday and Tuesday and attended several meetings. The team is led by the chairman of the committee, vice-principal Abdus Shaheed MP. Members of the committee are AB Tajul Islam MP from Branbaria-6 constituency, Fazle Hossain Badsha MP from Rajshahi-2 constituency, Ahsan Adlul Rahman MP from Nilphamari-4 constituency and Khadijatul Anwar MP from reserved women’s constituency.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Ali Hossain, project director Dr. Shaukat Akbar, Chief Administrative and Accounting Officer Alok Chakraborty, Site Director Engineer Ashraful Islam, Site Incharge Ruhul Quddus and other officials were present at the time.
