Mentioning that the sense of unity, secularism and communal harmony is the tradition of the people of Bangladesh, President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged all to play their due role in national development from their respective positions maintaining the communal harmony.
“Puja and other festivals are derived from the depth of the tradition and culture of the Bengal. So, no festival is limited to the circle of religion,” he said while talking to media people during a reception at Bangabhaban.
The President hosted the reception for the members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom also exchanged greetings with the guests.
Abdul Hamid said religions belong to communities but festivals to all. “The main message of all religions is human welfare.” Hindu religious personalities and leaders of various puja committees joined the reception.
Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahman and Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla were also present. Distinguished personalities of the Hindu Community also joined the reception.

BSS adds: President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday issued separate messages on the eve of holy Ashura, paying deep respects to Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.
Prophet Hazrat Muhammad’s grandson Hazrat Imam Hossain, his family and a host of his followers embraced martyrdom on Karbala premises on the10th Muharram of Hijri 61 in a battle to establish truth and justice.
In his message, the President said the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and his companions in Karbala for upholding the ideals of Islam, the religion of peace and tranquility, is remaining as a glorious event in history.
He said the eternal message of Ashura inspires all to be vocal against any injustice and repression and walk on the path of truth and justice.
The President called upon the Muslim Ummah to build an equitable and just society imbued with the message of the holy Ashura. He wished unity, solidarity and continued progress of the Muslim Ummah.
In her message, the Prime Minister urged all to be imbued with the teachings of the holy Ashura to establish truth and justice in all spheres of lives to combat all kinds of injustice in the national life.
She said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and his companions to establish peace and justice in society is a glaring and emulating example for the Muslim Ummah across the world.
