Women’s participation in agriculture, poultry sector Reduce poverty

Salina Jahan, a woman farmer cum entrepreneur of Narsingdi district, set an example for establishing a healthy and organic agriculture through using organic fertilizers in the imbalanced nature and soil of the district.
Not only that, she brought out women from home to the agricultural land for changing their fortune.
Salina inspired many women towards agriculture and involved women with diverse agriculture for self reliant. She also inspired the rural women producing vermin-compost for organic farming.
Salina Jahan, the pioneer woman for her good achievement to establish a healthy and organic agriculture, received National Award Medal Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Purasker from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2007.
She also received award Joyeeta (economics category) from district administration of Narsingdi.
BSS correspondent last week visited Salina’s organic agriculture farm at Shoikarchar village of Shibpur upazila. Talking to BSS Salina said she and her organization Grameen Krishak Darida Bimochan Atmakalyan Sangstha started organic agriculture farm 2007 with the assistance of the then deputy commissioner Amrita Baroi.
She brought out the unemployed rural women from home to lands and engaged them in producing vermin compost for organic vegetables. She involved the women with diverse agriculture for self-reliant.
Salina said at present she cultivated organic vegetables and rice on 25 bigas land and getting excellent income from agriculture.
She also engaged her in poultry farming and Turkey bird farming at Joynagor union of the same upazila in Narsingdi district from 2015. At present, there are over 5000 layer poultry and 5000boiler poultry in her poultry farm. She also inspired the women rearing poultry bird for accelerating growth of the prospective sector to strengthen national economy.
Salina jahan said women participation in agriculture and poultry sector has been contributing in poverty alleviation, meeting nutrition demand of the population and also bringing self-reliance to the women.
