BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday said the participation of women in the country’s all sectors must be ensured for building a prosperous and self-defendant country.
In a message on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, she greeted all the women of the world, including in Bangladesh, saying, “I wish their (women’s) continued happiness, peace and prosperity.
“All will have to remain aware so that women are
not neglected, subjected to repression and suppression and deprived of their basic rights,” Khaleda said.
The International Women’s Day will be observed on Tuesday in the country as elsewhere across the world with a call for taking pragmatic actions to accelerate gender parity.
The BNP chairperson urged all to work sincerely for the development and welfare of women.
Mentioning that half of the country’s population is women, she said the progress of women will have to be ensured for the optimum development of human being.
Khaleda recalled that previous BNP governments had taken various ‘significant’ programmes for the progress and empowerment of women.
