Women micro entrepreneurs need trade-wise association

Speakers at a daylong workshop in Rajshahi said the women micro entrepreneurs need trade wise association for boosting up their business side by side with improving living and livelihood condition.
They viewed the women identify and prioritize the business environment and economic challenges they face as well as the required action to address them through the association.
Urban Partnership for Poverty Reduction Project (UPPRP) organized the workshop styled “Formation of Trade-wise Association of Micro-entrepreneurs” held at Safawang Community Centre yesterday.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) jointly supported the programme with the main thrust of improving economic condition of the women micro entrepreneurs through intensifying business investment and proper marketing of the produced goods.
RCC Mayor Mosaddique Hossain Bulbul, who addressed the inaugural session as chief guest, said substantial improvement of women entrepreneurship could play vital role towards ensuring women empowerment.
Successful promotion of both small and micro entrepreneurship among women could be the effective means of boosting their income generating activities.
Terming adequate promotion of business as vital means of making any region economically prosperous, the Mayor said priority should be given in identifying the existing problems related to business environment here.
Mayor Bulbul said empowerment of women has become an urgent need for their financial independence. Women entrepreneurs should seize every opportunity offered by the government.
He further stated that professional training could help women entrepreneurs realize these opportunities. As a whole, women, especially entrepreneurs, can progress only if the authorities concerned ease the way for them in launching their start-ups.
He, however, stated that women entrepreneurs of the country were facing a number of obstacles which should be removed.
In his welcome speech, UPPRP Town Manager Ershadul Haque said the project is being implemented to improve the living and livelihood condition of around three lakh poor and extreme poor people, especially women and girls, in the Rajshahi city by 2015.
The programme promotes household and community level urban food production technology demonstrations and provides small input supports especially for high yielding variety vegetable and fruits seeds, saplings and poultry vaccination to the target group.
