A woman was hacked to death allegedly by her son-in-law at Paragaon village in Kachua upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Khodeja Begum, 45, wife of Joynal Abedin of the village.Quoting family members, police said Sharmin, 19, a garment worker and wife of Shohagh of Barguna district, used to live with her parents in Kachua upazila since after her marriage.
Khodeja and Shohagh, son-in-law of Khodeja, had long been at loggerheads over the issue.On Thursday, an altercation ensued between Shohag and Khodeja as he tried to bring back his wife to his home around 8 pm.
At one stage of altercation, Shohagh hit Khodeja with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead on the spot.While resisting, Sharmin and her cousin Sohel were injured during the incident.Hearing hue and cry, local people rushed in and caught Shohagh after a hot chase and handed him over to police after a good beating.
Shohagh, Sharmin and Sohel were admitted to Kachua and Shahrasti upazila health complexes.On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur General Hosptial morgue for an autopsy.
