Women in police force now 6.6%: IGP

Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary on Thursday said, the number of women in Bangladesh Police Force now is 11,667 i.e about 6.66 percent of the total force.
He praised also the professionalism of the female members of the police saying that they were showing highest responsibility during their duties.
Javed Patwary said this while speaking at a police rally in the Police Headquarters organised by Bangladesh Police Women’s Network in Dhaka marking the International Women’s Day.
 “Our female police members have proved that they are qualified. They are also discharging their duties successfully with the highest level of professionalism even in challenging jobs of the traffic management,” he said.
 “Not only in our country, police are also displaying valour, courage and professionalism in international spheres like the UN peacekeeping mission,” he said.
The IGP recalled the contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in introducing women members to the police force.
Earlier, Bangladesh Police Women’s Network brought out a procession started in front of the Police Headquarters and ended at the same place after parading different roads of the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia was present at the programme.
