Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the participation of women in every sphere of life proves that they are going ahead with their own competence and ability.
She was addressing a discussion titled “Muktijuddhe Nari” (Women in Liberation War) marking the International Women’s Day at Jatiya Press Club here.
Dipu said though the women are getting empowered, they are facing gender discrimination and repression not only in Bangladesh but also all over the world.
She said statistics of sexual assaults shows that the women are becoming victims of sexual violence in the developed countries.
So, there is necessity to observe the International Women’s Day as a special day, she added.
Jatiya Press Club President Farida Yasmin chaired the discussion while its Managing Committee Member Ayub Bhuiyan moderated it.
JPC General Secretary Elias Khan, Nari Sangbadik Kendro President and valiant freedom fighter Nasimun Ara Haque Minu and senior journalist Mahmuda Chowdhury were also present, among others.
