Kishoreganj District Administration including Women Affairs Department, District Police arranged a colourfull rally, discussion, and cultural function marking the International Women’s Day on Friday.
A discussion meeting on Time is now: Rural , Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives held at Kishoreganj Old Court premises Friday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury attended as chief guest while DWAO Md. Mamunur Rashid in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Mohila Porished Former District President Sultana Razia, Bilkis Begum, Consumer Rights Protect Assistant Director Md. Ibrahim Hossain, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, BRAC District Manager Bazlur Rashid.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury said, In Bangladesh half of the total population is women. Its possible to change the country’s overall scenario through ensuring gender equality in national development, which will help achive the sustainable deelopment goals.
CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito has said, Women must be given the same oppertunities and rights so that they can play their role in society and contribute to the national economy in a big way.
Bangladesh Mohila Somity, Kishoreganj District Unit arranged a discussion meeting held at its office with Unit President Advocate Maya Bhowmik, in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Educationalist Abu Khaled Pathan, Formar Bar President Adv Dolon Bhowmik, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito and Women Chamber Leader Bilkis Begum.

befittingly with a vow to free the womenfolk from all sorts of violence, disparity and discrimination.
Marking the day, district administration and department of women affairsorganised a two-day women development fair at the premises of District Women Affairs office in the city on Friday.
Chaired by Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs Shirin Shobnom,the fair opening ceremony was addressed, among others, by city unit vice- president of Bangladesh Awami League Shaheen Akhter Rainy, former State Minister Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder and Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader.
A huge procession was brought out from Alupatti crossing which paraded the main thoroughfares of the city carrying banners and festoons. The procession
converged into an hour-long human chain and street-corner meeting at Shaheb Bazar crossing.
Various development organisations including Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, Association for Community Development (ACD) and Ladies Organisation for Social Welfare joined the programmes.
Taking part in the discussion, the development activists unanimously said gender balance is the precondition to substantial and sustainable progress of the nation and it is very important to the development of national economy.
They also emphasized the need for freeing society from gender discrimination to establish a non discriminatory and equitable society for taking the nation forward successfully.
Highlighting their laudable contribution to the nation-building process,they called for acknowledging the domestic and farm women workers as labourers so that they could ensure their legitimate rights.
BSS from Rangpur says: The International Women’s Day-2019 was observed with a fresh pledge for ensuring equal rights of women and ensuring their participation in every sector of national progress in Rangpur division on Friday.
The district administrations, Department of Women’s Affairs (DWA),different NGOs and educational institutions, human rights and women organisations and other bodies chalked out various programmes to observe the day in all eight districts of the division.
In Rangpur city, the district administration, District Women Affairs Office, Department of Social Services, Shishu Academy, Jatiya Mohila Sangstha, Samajtantrik Mohila Forum’, NGOs and other organisations chalked out programmes to observe the day.
The observance began with colourful rallies which brought out on the streets with participation of women, men, girls, adolescents, students, officials and NGO activists followed by seminar, discussions and cultural functions. Acting Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin Mian inaugurated a two-day Women Development Fair-2019 on the Public Library premises as the chief guest in observance of the day.
Different government and non-governmental organisations and bodies have setup 20 stalls on the fair premises displaying their produced items and products.
Later, the Acting Deputy Commissioner attended the main discussion held at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest with District Women Affairs Officer Kawsar Pervin in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir, Chairman of Rangpur unitof Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Rosy Rahman, women activists Monjushree Saha, Somse Ara Bilkis, human rights activist Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, also addressed. Side by side with other programmes in Thakurgaon town, the district and police administrations jointly brought out a colourful bicycle rally with participation of female students of different educational institutions.
Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon Dr KM Kamruzzaman Selim and Police Super Md Moniruzzaman jointly led the rally on the streets creating huge enthusiasm among the common people of the district town.
While addressing the rallies, the speakers put importance on changing thesocial mindset to eradicate gender disparity for flourishing women leadership and ensuring equal rights of the women at all levels.
Another reports adds: Julia Niblett has said empowerment of women is very important to achieve food
security and improve nutrition of people in Bangladesh. She viewed this while visiting farm activities of female farmers adopting
conservation agriculture for sustainable intensification (CASI) technologies at Mondolabari village in Pirganj upazila and Harinarayanpur village in Mithapukur upazila here on Friday. During her visit, Julia also celebrated the International Women’s Day-2019 with female farmers of the two villages on their farm lands, a press release said on Friday .
The Australian envoy observed adoption of CASI technologies being disseminated at field levels by Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and
RDRS Bangladesh under Sustainable Resilient Farming Systems Intensification (SRFSI) project.
The Australian government is funding implementation of SRFSI project involving 1.50 lakh farmers in India, Bangladesh and Nepal through its
Sustainable Development Investment Portfolio (SDIP) development strategy for South Asia.
The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) are extending technical assistance to local development partners for implementation of theproject.
Julia talked to project beneficiary female farmers and learnt that the SRFSI project was transforming latest technologies to their farm activities.
The Australian envoy expressed pleasure over thriving adoption of CASI technologies like strip tillage using power tiller operated seeder machines
(PTOS) and zero tillage by female farmers Lucky Begum, Neer Bala, Kanu Bala, Dilruba Begum and Salma Begum in the villages.
While speaking with the female farmers, she appreciated them for their success in directly embracing new agriculture technologies, participating in pre- and post- harvest decision making and extending their commercial skills to others.
Local farmers informed Julia of reducing production cost of Taka 9,000 per acre of land in farming maize and Taka 5,000 in farming wheat to get higher yields by saving time, irrigation water and labour expenses adopting new sustainable intensification practices.
CIMMYT representative Dr Thakur Prasad Tiwari, Programme Coordinator for ACIAR-SDIP Kuhu Chatterjee, Deputy Director of the DAE Dr Sarowarul Haque, Mithapukur Upazila Agriculture Officer Rezaul Karim, Director (Field Operations) of RDRS Bangladesh Humayun Khaled, its Senior Coordinator
(Agriculture and Environment) Mamunur Rashid and Project Coordinator Mizanur Rahman accompanied the Australian envoy during her visit.
