A woman was crushed under the wheels of the Demo train at the city’s Shulosohor-2 No. gate area on Sunday noon.
The victim was identified as Tanni Roy (25), a receptionist of the Square Diagnostic center, adjacent to the Chittagong Medical College, hailing from Rawjan upazilla.
Earlier, at least four persons were crushed under CU shuttle train at the Shulosohor’s 2. No. gateway. Students and the pedestrians alleged the mobile shops, rising at the both sides of the railway at 2 no. gate area are mostly responsible for the accident. They also alleged, the city corporation on and off conducted eviction drive and drove them out for many times but with wish from an political influential quarter, the shops continuing their business.
Eye witness and police sources said, Tanni was crushed under Chittagong University student-carrying Demo train, headed for the port city while she was crossing the railway line with talking over mobile phone.
The victim caught spot death as the train hit and crushed her, he added. Students on board on the demo train said, the train with a poor appearance of the students left the campus at 3.00 pm and crushed Tanni as Shulosohor area. The lockmaster frequently made whistle to concern Tanni but she was busy with mobile phone, so she was crushed.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Zakir Hossain of Shulosohor police station, confirmed it to the correspondent, saying Tanni’s dead body was sent to CMCH for autopsy and her family member were informed.
