Women athletes make Bangladesh proud in international arena

Women Athletes in Bangladesh sports celebrates Women’s Day today (Wednesday) with great enthusiasm as the present Government has provided them with various opportunity to excel in home and abroad.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympics Association (BOA) Syed Shahed Reza talking to BSS on Tuesday said, ” We are lucky that our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a great patron of sports therefore BOA, National Sports Council and Sports Ministry through different Sports Federation has provided opportunity for female athletes to show their mettle in their respective events.
As you know we have a conservative society but Prime Minister’s inspiration has changed their mindset and women in greater number are coming in sports.”
After Cricket, Football is the most popular sports in Bangladesh. But sadly Bangladesh male booters has not been performing for the few years to their true potentials and their rankings has taken plunge in this SAAF region.
But Bangladesh Football Federation is lucky as they found women booters as their savior as they had produced some real encouraging news for the past few months.
BFF women wing took a dynamic step to girls from underprivileged backgrounds and under coach Choton they triumphed in the AFC Under-14 Championship Qualifiers triumph in March and later even left behind their male counterpart to win the title of The Daily Star’s Team of the Year 2016.
Bangladesh women lifted the title of AFC U-14 Regional Championship 2016 beating India 4-0 at the Aviator Stadium, Dushanbe, Tajikistan last year.
Tohura slammed a hat-trick scoring in the 1st, 51st and 63rd minute. Anuching netted another goal in the 30th minute in the final.
Women booters made Bangladesh proud as they emerged as the unbeaten champions of group C of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers beating UAE 5-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in September.
SWIMMING
Bangladeshi swimmer Mahfuza won her first gold medal in the games for Bangladesh in 100m Breast Stroke (women) event in South Asian Games held last year in India.
Mahfuza Khatun Shila won her second gold medal with a new record in 50m Breast Stroke (women) event in the same South Asian Games in India.
Mahfuza took 34.88 seconds on her way to win the gold medal in the event, breaking the previous record of 34.97 seconds timing held by Sri Lankan swimmer Raheen Mayuni since 2006 SA Games in Colombo.
WEIGHTLIFTING
Bangladesh weightlifter Mabia Akter Shimanta had won the first ever goal for women in weightlifting 63kg (women) in the SAG Games in India.
Her compatriot Fullapati Chakma had won Silver in weightlifting 58 KG and Shathi Sultana also won Silver Medal in weightlifting 69 KG in the SAG Games. Molla Shabira won bronze in 48 KG. Firoza Parvin won bronze 75 KG
KABADDI
The women’s team earned a silver medal in the South Asian Games 2016 in India while men’s team could settle for bronze.
