Women are more victims of cyber crime, men of hacking

Women are made more victims of cyber crimes like harassment and pornography on social media than men in the country.
Among the victims, the number of males is 43.22 percent while the number of females is 56.78 percent. Meanwhile, men are more victims of mobile banking and ATM card hacking.
Such information has emerged in the research report titled ‘Bangladesh Cyber Crime Trend-2022’ organized by Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CCA Foundation). The research was sponsored by the technology service provider Cyber Paradise Limited.
On Saturday afternoon, Monira Nazmi Jahan, Head of the research team and also teacher of the law department of East West University, presented the details of the research report under the chairmanship of CCA Foundation president Kazi Mustafiz.
Monira Nazmi said, misinformation has been increasing on social media during the post-coronavirus period. Most of the victims are between 18 to 30 years and their rate is about 80.90 percent.
About 73.4 percent of victims do not seek legal recourse after being harassed. Besides, only 7.04 percent of the victims who took legal recourse expressed their satisfaction with the legal services.
According to the research report, the victims do not complain anywhere about the crime due to various reasons including fear of public embarrassment. In the overall situation, eight recommendations are highlighted in the research report along with extensive awareness activities to control cyber crime.
