Criminals shot a woman to death in port city’s Bakalia area on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Bubli Akhtar, 28, a resident of Bakalia’s Bojro Ghona area.
The incident took place at around 9:30pm at Madina Masjid area, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Shah Md Abdur Rauf of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
Quoting family members, the ADC said Bubli had come to her father’s residence a few days ago. There was a longstanding enmity between Bubli’s relative Hasan and one Shah Alam.
Last night, Shah Alam came to Hasan and locked into altercation over the enmity, the ADC said.
At one stage, Shah Alam went out of the house and came back around half an hour later carrying firearms and followed by some other men. Hasan was not at the house, so Alam got into an argument with Bubli’s brother Rubel, the police official said.
Shah Alam opened fire at one point, and Bubli was shot in the neck when she tried to save her brother, he added.
She was declared dead after being rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station said they were conducting drives to arrest the killers, who fled the scene after the incident.
The body was sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy.
