Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 rescued a woman and arrested alleged human trafficker from Mathbaria under Pirojpur district.
Holding a press briefing at RAB-8 headquarter in Rupatali area of Barishal on Sunday night Major Khan Sajibul Islam, deputy commander of RAB-8, disclosed this fact. The arrested Liton Khalifa,35, was son of Salam Khalifa from Morelganj under Bagerhut district and was a scrap material (Vangari) trader.
The rescued victim was from Patharghata under Barguna upazila. RAB sources said Liton and his three sisters with their husbands residing illegally in India since long days.
Liton often entering Bangladesh crossing border alluring Bangladeshi men and women to employ them in service with handsome salaries and benefits operating human trafficking trading in disguise of scrap material business.
After crossing border blackmailing family members the trafficking gang collected huge money from the victims.
The rescued woman introduced with Liton over mobile phone and then trapped by him. On Saturday Liton entering Bangladesh contacting with the victim asked her to come Mathbaria and started journey from Mathbaria to India on Sunday morning.
RAB-8 on basis of tip-off after informed about the matter rescued the victim and arrested Liton from Mathbaria on Sunday noon.
In interrogation Liton confessed his role in human trafficking in disguise of scrap material business.
A case has been lodged with Mathbaria police station by RAB-8 under act for preventing human trafficking against Liton and he sent to Pirojpur district jail and rescued victim handed over to family members on Monday.
