A woman and a minor boy drowned in two separate drowning incidents in Kanaighat and Jakiganj upazilas respectively in the district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Hosne Ara, 30, daughter of Mati Mia of Dakkhin Thakurmati village in Kanaighat upazila and Mahir Ahmed, 7, son of Nurul Islam hailing Mansurpur village of Jakiganj upazila.
Locals said Hosne Ara, a widow, drowned in the flood waters that have immersed a large part of the region, while trying to rescue her son from drowning around 3pm. Her bid to save her child did not end in vain though, as she embraced death even as she gave her child another chance at life.
