The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Joypurhat on Tuesday sentenced a woman to seven years in jail for filing a rape case on false accusation. The convict is Shrimoti Nandarani, 31, a resident of Biala village in Kalai upazila of the district.
Tribunal judge Md Rustam Ali sentenced Nandarani for seven years in jail and fined Tk 30, 000, in default, to serve five months of rigorous imprisonment. Nandarani filed a case with the tribunal on April 21, 2014, bringing false accusation against co-villager Abul Hasnat, 36.
Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Firoza Chowdhury confirmed the matter.
