A woman was hacked to death allegedly by her drug addicted step-son at Kartikdia village in Sadar upazila on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Hasina Begum, wife of Moksed Miah, a resident of the village. Family members said Hasina’s step-son Faruk Sheikh, 35, was a drug addict and used to torture her for money.
On Sunday evening, Faruk demanded money from Hasina. As Hasina refused to give the money, he hit her in the head with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
Injured Hasina was rushed to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
On information, police recovered the body.
Police also arrested Faruk in connection with the murder.
