A woman allegedly committed suicide following a quarrel with her son in the city’s Jatrabari area on Monday. She hailed from Naria upazila of Shariatpur district, police said.
The deceased was identified as Runa Akhter, 35, wife of Mohammad Ali, an expatriate to South Africa.
Quoting relatives, Jatrabari Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Aboni Shankar Kar said that Runa committed suicide after her son Raqibul left the home following a quarrel with her.
After returning from the outside Raqibul found the door of his mother’s room closed from inside. With the help of neighbours he entered the room breaking open the door and found his mother’s body hanging with a ceiling fan, the OC said.
She was soon rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
The OC further said that an unnatural death (UD) case was filed yesterday with the police station in this connection.
