A woman was arrested for allegedly killing her nine-year-old son by setting him on fire to death in Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj district early Friday.
She planned to kill her two sons to wipe out witness of her extramarital affair with her brother-in-law (expatriate husband’s step brother) named one Momen.
The accused is Shefali Begum, wife of Anowar Hossain, a Bangladeshi migrant worker based in Oman, said Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) M. A. Haque. Receiving information from local people, police went to Shefali’s house and recovered the burnt body of her elder son Hridoy. In the same incident, her younger son Jihad, 7, also suffered burn injuries. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. “Shefali confessed that she torched her two babies when they were sleeping,” said M. A. Haque.
“She has an extramarital affair with her brother-in-law (Step brother of Anwar) named Momen. Her sons came to know the matter. Since then, she planned to kill them.”
Police are looking for Momen who remained absconding since the incident.
