Woes of homegoer won’t reduce: Dr Mizan

Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman on Wednesday questing the claim that the woes of the passengers will be reduced during the Eideven development of some roads completed.
He said the railway tickets could not be sold on online. Tickets are not available even in the counters, there are no tickets. Again the news came that 23 thousand tickets remained unsold. Are we living in a fool’s paradise? Where is the accountability?” he asked
He was speaking at a discussion programme held at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Hall in the National Press Club yesterday.
Bangladesh Passengers’ Welfare Association (BPWA) organized the discussion programme under the banner of “Woes in Eid-journey: our responsibility”.
Mizanur Rahman, commenting on the absence of rule of law in the public transport sector, said that due to absence of rule of law, there is suffering in every stage. The way to escape from it is the proper application of law, which is not there. If the rule of law does not prevail in the society even at a minimum level, citizens do not have the right.
He also said, “The state repeatedly cheated the common people. It is very difficult to tolerate it.
Additional Secretary of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Mohammed Belayet Hossain said, “Passengers must be aware to avoid road accidents. During the Eid, many passengers journey on the train, on the bus with many risks. The passengers must stay away from it.”
Director of Road Safety Division of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Sheikh Mohammad Mahbub-E-Rabbani, former Chairman of BRTA Ayubur Rahman, former Executive Director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) Salehuddin Ahmed, Senior Urban Planner Topan Kumar Nath, among others, gave speech in the discussion programme.
