Withdrawal of decision for turning academic bldg to medical hostel demanded

Students of Barisal Nursing College locking BNC principal in her office demonstrated at their campus in Sher E Bangla Medical College on Wednesday demanded withdrawal of decision for accommodating female resident medical students at newly constructed BNC academic building.
This step created tensions among the BNC and SBMC students as BNC students started agitation programmes holding procession and rally in the campus since Wednesday noon.
The agitation program of BNC students was addressed among others by Smriti Haladar Banya, Nishitha, Ataur Rahman, Parvej Kabir, Rowshan Ara, Setu Biswas and Resma Khatun, the leaders of the agitated nursing students.
Speakers of the meeting said 550 female students of BNC living in only 160-seated hostel under inhuman conditions.
Health ministry ignoring that problem ordered to use the newly constructed academic building of BNC for residence of the SBMC female student.
The nursing students demanding immediate withdrawal the order cautioned to announce program for greater movement in favor of their demand.
Hearing about tensions at SBMC campus Hosneara Begum, additional district magistrate, Dr. Bhaskar Saha, principal of SBMC, rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation and release BNC principal.
However the agitated BNC student refusing their proposals vowed to continue agitation programme till cancellation of the decision.

Then the SBMC principal and ADM left the campus on Wednesday afternoon assuring BNC students to inform higher authourity about the situation and statements of nursing students.
Aleya Begum, confined principal of BNC, over mobile phone, said public works department handed over newly constructed four-storied academic building to BNC on March 3, 2015. Still some works of interior decoration, furniture and distribution of spaces remained unfinished.
BNC has acute residential accommodation problem for own students and without solving that asking to use space of newly constructed BNC academic building for residential purpose of SBMC female students only intensified the problem and created tensions, BNC principal told.
Dr. Bhaskar Saha, principal of the SBMC, said about 700 out of more than 1,100 students of SBMC were female.
The SBMC was declared closed on February 10, 2015 after piling works of under construction new hostel building for girl-students endangered the 350-seated 5-storied old hostel building. PWD declared the old girls hostel as risky for accommodation.
The authority requested to give two vacant out of four floors at newly constructed BNC academic building for residential accommodation of the SBMC girl students on temporary basis till completing under construction of new hostel as the college would be opened on next week, SBMC principal told.
Director General and divisional director of health, authourities of SBMCH, SBMC and BNC visiting the campus held a joint meeting in presence on Sunday night at Barisal circuit house.
The in that meeting DG health asked the BNC principal to give two floors of the newly constructed academic building of BNC for temporary residential accommodation of the female students of SBMC.
