With epicentre in Nepal, tremor also jolts BD, India, Afghanistan

An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in Nepal also hit Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon followed by an aftershock, according to U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake shook Bangladesh, including capital Dhaka, at about 1.10 pm, prompting panic-stricken people to come out of their homes and workplaces. It was followed by an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale at about 1.40pm. The tremor was also felt in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal and even shook building as far south as in with a magnitude Mumbai. According to Indian media, the epicentre of the strong earthquake that shook Nepal today was close to Mount Everest. Namche Bazaar is the starting point for those who want to climb Mount Everest. The distance between Namche Bazaar and Mount Everest is about 30 km. Earlier on April 25, another major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit the Himalayan nation Nepal, leaving 8,019 people killed.
