Wishing for peace and sanity

IT’S the first day of the New Year -2020. A new year usually begins with new hope and renewed determination to review the past and change things for the betterment of all. All over the world coming of a new year embraces with joy in expectation that all of them everywhere will learn from the past mistakes make new beginnings for creating a better new world. The New Year means new challenges for creating new opportunities for peace and progress. That is how evil got defeated and progress continued. American Congregationalist and clergyman Henry Ward Beecher wrote in 1882, “Every man should be born again on the first of January.” It’s because there’s always something special about the New Year that can be inspirational! Much of the New Year’s discussions will centre round how to bring about changes where the country belongs to the people but the government is above the people and to be feared by the people. We have to bring harmony where antagonism afflicts the whole society.
The country’s economy flourished in a one-sided way to make the corrupt ones richer and rest of the community poorer. All in all, we failed to fight all round vicious corruption as the basis of political power. The vice of corruption has changed our society into something we never dreamt of. How it happened among us is the question everybody should ask. All our sacrifices for peace have become a bad dream. It should be our New Year’s resolve that character in public is important and slavishness to greed does not make a nation great and worthy.
Our belief is that the press is the people’s voice to protect the people’s right to live under a just and equitable system has been our motto in the years gone by and in the New Year we shall remain steadfast to our vow. If that means not to exist then also we shall not shrink.
