Around 400 blankets were distributed among the poor, madrasa students and cold-hit people in Nilphamari on Monday.
Municipal Haji Kalyan Samiti of the district organised the distribution programme.
Municipal Mayor Dewan Kamal Ahmed handed over the blankets to the cold-hit people in front of Shah Villa on Syedpur Road in the city this morning as the chief guest with president of Municipal Haji Kalyan Samiti Abdus Sobhan in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahid Mahmud, District Haji Welfare Association President Moyez Uddin, General Secretary Moslem Uddin, Municipal General Secretary, Shamsul Haque, Publicity Secretary Mujibur Rahman of the Samiti, among others, were present of the occasion.
On the eve of the distribution of winter clothes, the speakers said from a humanitarian point of view, all the well-to-do people should cooperate with the helpless people from their respective positions.
Sylhet Bureau reports: The Momen Foundation, formed with the personal funds of AK Abdul Momen MP has distributed winter clothes among the helpless and disadvantaged people of Jalalabad Union of Sylhet Sadar Upazila marking the Golden Jubilee of Victory Day.
Winter clothes were distributed at Puran Kalaruka Adarsh High School on Sunday morning. Newly elected Chairman of Jalalabad Union Obaidullah Ishak presided over the programme.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Selina Momen, Chairperson of Momen Foundation and wife of the Foreign Minister said, it is necessary to extend a helping hand and sympathy to the able-bodied and rich people of the society towards the cold stricken people. Selflessness is the religion of helping and serving the endangered people.
He said that the incidence of winter has increased and so has the suffering of the poor and miserable people. Poor people also suffer due to lack of winter clothes and blankets. He appealed to all and said, “Let us stand by the cold with whatever we can.” Momen Foundation has been created and this organization will always stand by the helpless and poor people.
Helen Ahmed, Chairman, National Women’s Organization, Sylhet District, and Shafiul Alam Jewel, Co-General Secretary, Momen Foundation also attended as special guests.
KAPASIA (Gazipur) Correspondent says: Winter clothes were distributed at Kapasia in Gazipur. Nurul Islam Foundation, a foundation after the name of Chairman of Jamuna Group distributed winter clothes among hundreds of needy people at Char Durlabh Khan Abdul Hai Sarkar High School ground in Barishab Union of the upazila on Monday noon.
Among others, Tofail Ghazali, Co-Editor of Dainik Jugantar, Project Director of Nurul Islam Foundation, Md. Sumon Mia, UP member of ward 7 of Barishab Union, Shibbir Ahmed, acting Headmaster of Char Durlav Khan AH High Government High School, Babu, staff of Jamuna Television and local dignitaries were present there.
After the distribution of winter clothes, prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the soul of late Nurul Islam. Imam Hafez Maulana Shahidul Islam presided over the prayers at Dhaka Jugantar Mosque.
35,700 blankets allocated for distribution in Jamalpur
Jamalpur Correspondent adds: District Administration allocated 35,700 blankets for distribution among the cold-hit people in the district on Monday.
According to District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources, the blankets were allocated for distribution among the cold-hit people in 68 unions and eight municipality areas in the district.
The blankets have been sent to upazila headquarters for distribution.
The sources said each union and municipality was allotted 470 blankets. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Nayeb Ali said Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation also allocated Tk85 lakh for purchasing blankets for distribution.
