A total of 360 blankets were distributed among the cold affected people of small ethnic groups and Asrayan project and people who live on the railway platform here Friday night.
DC Shamim Ahmed distributed the blankets among the distressed people of the areas in the city.
A total of 28,200 blankets were allocated from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the helpless and cold-hit people of the district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Ahmed informed this.
Rest of the blankets will be distributed soon, he added.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Nadeem Sarwar, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Engineer Salahuddin-Al-Wadud, Nezarat Deputy Collector of the district administration Jewel Ahmed, among others, were present on the occasion.
Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent adds: Pabna District Awami League Deputy Office Secretary and former RU BCL leader Barrister Syed Ali Jiru distributed winter clothes among the helpless people of Ishwardi. On Thursday night and Friday he distributed blankets and winter clothes among the helpless and low-income people.
Winter clothes were distributed from house to house in several villages of the city including Harijan Kaleni, Darinaricha Hindupara, Alobagh Mor of the municipality, Ward No. 1, Velupara, Barichara.
Ishwardi Press Club President Prof. Swapan Kumar Kundu, Women’s College Vice President Ismail Hossain, Primary Education Officer Kamrul Islam, Assistant Professor Matiar Rahman, Pabna University of Science and Technology teacher Subrata Biswas, Senior Journalist M.A. Kader, Journalist Ahsan Habib, Engineer Iftekhair Swechchhasebak League leader Ashraful Islam Asha, Chhatra League leader Asif Salehin Bishal were present.
Barrister Jiru said at the time, the intensity of winter is much higher in Ishwardi. Helpless and low-income people are suffering in winter. At the behest of Awami League leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, I have tried to stand by the side of 2,000 cold-stricken families with blankets and winter clothes.
