Winning start for Bangladesh in World Chess Olympiad

Bangladesh open and women’s teams got off to a winning start in the 43rd World Chess Olympiad that began on Monday at Sports Place in Batumi, Georgia.
A total of 189 countries are participating in the open and women’s sections of the event.
In the Open section, Bangladesh team beat Palau by 4-0 game points and in women’s section Bangladesh women’s team beat Kosovo by 4-0 game points.
GM Ziaur Rahman, FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman, GM Enamul Hossain and FM Khandaker Aminul Islam of Bangladesh won their respective games accordingly against Tan Santiago Jr, Salvadora Angelo, Cabuso Rustum and Toribiong Leif of Palau.
In the women’s section, WIM Shamima Akter Liza, WFM Tanima Parveen, WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin and WIM Rani Hamid won their respective games accordingly against Kollari Hafife, Saraci Ndriqona, Saraci Rinesa and Vitia Elfete of Kosovo.
The event is being held in 11 round Swiss-League system. A total of 185 teams from 180 countries are participating in open section and 151 teams from 146 countries are taking part in women’s section.
