Windies clinch T20I series

Bangladesh lost to West Indies by 50 runs in the last and final Twenty20 International (T20I) match of the three-match series at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday. By virtue of yesterday’s victory, West Indies clinched the T20I series 2-1.
Sent into bat first, West Indies made 190 in 19.2 overs.
In return, Bangladesh were all out for 140 off 17 overs.
Bangladesh had a shaky start as opener Tamim Iqbal (9) was unfortunately run out by a joint-effort of Rovman Powell and Shai Hope when Bangladesh’s total was 22.
Then, Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar repaired the damage adding together 43 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya (9) was caught at the long-on by Sheldon Cottrell off Fabian Allen when Bangladesh’s score was 65 for the loss of two wickets.
After dismissal of Soumya, Bangladesh failed to build any other notable partnership.
Liton Das fought back making a fine 43. His 25-ball innings was belted with three sixes and three fours.
Number-10 batsman Abu Hider was the other batsman for the hosts who showed a respectable performance. Hider remained unbeaten with 22 runs. His 17-ball innings had three fours and a sixer.
Keemo Paul played the key role to wrap up Bangladesh’s innings. He captured five wickets at the cost of 15 runs. Fabian Allen, Carlos Brathwaite and Sheldon Cottrell gave him a good support. Allen bagged a couple of wickets instead of 19 runs, while Carlos and Cottrell got one wicket each for 15 and 31 runs respectively.
Earlier, opener Ewin Lewis guided his team to pile up a comfortable total. He hit superb 89. His 36-ball hurricane innings was decorated with eight sixes and six fours. Lewis was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.
Mahmudullah Riyad, Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan grabbed three wickets each for 18, 33 and 37 runs respectively. Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Player of the Series for his consistent performance in the series.
