Wild life, bird protection for ecological balance stressed

Experts and development activists at a discussion here have unanimously observed that protection of wild life and birds has become an urgent need for maintaining ecological balance.
They mentioned that wild life and birds play a pivotal role in sustainable development of the nation. So, all the government and non-government entities concerned should come forward and work together to protect them from further degradation.
They came up with the observation while addressing consolidation and human chain meeting at Shimla Park in the city on Thursday.
Two non-government development organizations, Bangladesh Resource Centre for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) and Youth Action for Social Change (YASC), jointly organized the programme to press home the demands of ensuring food security and habitat of wild life and birds.
Senior assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Ifte Khayer Alam, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station Hafizur Rahman, BARCIK Regional Coordinator Shahidul Islam, YASC President Shamiul Alim Shaon and its general secretary Nazmul Islam, among others, addressed the programme.
Shahidul Islam stressed the need for protecting and preserving wild animals anyhow to have a better environment with bio-diversity. “Wild life populations are on the verge of extinction due to various threats including poaching, habitat loss and overuse of natural resources,” he said.
If such the trend continues, they will disappear from the environment in near future,” he added.
He called for full-length enforcement of the existing laws to protect the wild life. In his remarks, Ifte Khayer Alam underscored the need for generating public awareness to protect the wild animals.
He also urged the youths to give information about the law violators to the law enforcers in this regard.
RCC to bring its activities under automation
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is going to bring all its administrative and operational activities under automation within next one year.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while addressing a view-sharing meeting relating to waste management with all ward secretaries, supervisors and central supervisors at the city bhaban conference hall on Wednesday.
Chaired by Panel Mayor Shariful Islam the meeting was addressed, among others, by ward councilors Nizam-ul-Azim, Towdhidul Haque, Shahidul Islam and Abdul Momin and Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Mamun.
The meeting discussed and devised ways and means on how to expedite the city’s conservancy activities.
Mayor Liton said the city corporation has taken necessary initiatives of launching E-services and E-filing system coupled with expediting its online civic services after the best uses of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
The corporation took the measures with the main thrust of bringing dynamism in its service-delivery process through replacing the existing manual activities into digital system in phases.
Liton told the meeting that all the city corporation services will be brought under automation and digitalization in order to infusing dynamism in RCC’s online civic services.
The city corporation took the decision for expansion of RCC’s website, tax collection through banks in billing system and establishment of Wi-Fi zone for creating more scopes of ICT uses.
He also put emphasis on enhancing international connectivity, transforming all the RCC’s activities into database and displaying information board at various points to make the city information public.
Mayor Liton said various need-oriented steps were adopted to make the city activities expedited so that the public services are expanded significantly.
