An old woman was killed by the attack of wild elephants at Tawakucha Tila Para area in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district at 12.30 am on Saturday .
The deceased was identified as Momena Begum(60) wife of late Fazlul Haque at Tawakucha Tila Para in Jhenaigati upazila of the district.
A villager named Abdul Halim said the havoc of wild elephants has been going on for years. A herd of wild elephants came down at locality on early Saturday. When the elephants started to damage the paddy fields, the villagers came forward to prevent them. At one stage one of the elephants held Momena with its trunk and squeezed her. She died on spot.
Officer in charge of Jhenaigati thana Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed about it.
