A farmer was killed by the attack of a herd of wild elephants in the border area of Sherpur on Tuesday night. The body of the farmer was recovered from Mayaghasi area in Nalitabari upazila.
The deceased farmer was identified as Samed Ali (60) son of Asimuddin of Mayaghasi area of the upazila.
Forest department and familial sources said Samed Ali went to cut grass for the cattle in Mayaghasi area . The family members started looking for him as he did not return home before sunset . At about 10 pm, the crushed body of Samed Ali was recovered from the top of that hill.
Locals said a herd of wild elephants have been coming down in the locality in search of food for the past few days. They added that a herd of wild elephants also came down in the locality in search of food that day.
It is anticipated that Samed Ali was attacked and killed by a herd of wild elephants while he was cutting grass on the hill.
Madhutila Range Officer of Nalitbari Abdul Karim confirmed about it and said Samed Ali was an inhabitant of Mayaghasi area of Nalitbari.
Officer in charge of Nalitabari thana Bashir Ahmed Badal said police were sent to the spot after the incident. Steps will be taken in this regard immediately .
