A centenarian woman was killed by a herd of wild elephants at Kodukhola area under Sualak union in Sadar upazila here early Saturday.
The victim was identified as Halima Khatun, 103, mother of a member candidate for the upcoming union parishad election Md Abbas Ali.
Eyewitnesses said following the attack of a herd of wild animals comprising 4 to 5 at the house of Md Abbas Ali at night, the house inmates except Abbas’s mother, fled away. Meanwhile, the elephants thrashed the old woman, leaving her dead on the spot.
Sitting Member of Kodukhola ward Rofiqul Alam said the matter was informed to local police and forest department.
On Saturday morning, police recovered the body and handed it over to the relatives.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station Rafiq Ullah confirmed the incident.
