Wild elephants destroy 3 houses in Sherpur

Wild elephants destroyed three houses and damaged crops at bordering Gomra village in Jhenaigati upazila on Friday night, rendering 15 people homeless.
Nalkura union parishad Chairman Ayub Ali Farsha and UP member Shah Jahan said a herd of 25-30 wild elephants invaded the village in search of food around 10pm.
At one point, they swooped on the houses of farmer Osman Ali and his two sons and demolished those.
The wild elephants also ate up paddy, rice and flour stored at the houses and damaged crops on 2 acres of land, they said.
Jhenaigati Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rubel Mahmud and officer-in-charge (OC) of Jhenaigati Police Station Biplab Kumar Bishwas visited the affected houses on Saturday morning and assured the victims of assistance.
